8 Top Tips For The Perfect Wedding Makeup

Wedding season is upon us once again! One trend emerging this year is for brides to create their own wedding day makeup look. It might sound daunting at first, but all you need are a few skincare and beauty essentials and some tricks of the trade to help you on your way!
Luckily, we’ve teamed up with celebrity makeup artist and bridal beauty expert Hannah Martin and content creator and bride to be Josie Fear of Fashion Mumblr to help make this process a breeze!

Read on to discover Hannah’s pro bridal beauty tips and explore Josie’s BY TERRY must haves to achieve that flawless bridal look.

1. How to combat flash back from photography.

Flash back from flash photography is every bride’s nightmare! It is caused by the SPF in makeup reflecting the light and creating a pale caste. Annoyingly it can’t be seen with the naked eye but is very obvious in pictures. On top of your foundation with a SPF and be sure to set your makeup in place with Hyaluronic Hydra-Powder to prevent this from happening.

2. How to ensure makeup lasts all day.

Ensuring your makeup lasts all day is a must and it really comes down to three things – how you prep your skin before makeup, your chosen foundation and how you set it. Be sure your skincare really suits your skin type i.e. hydrating enough for those with dry skin and not too rich for those with more oily skin. I love the Hyaluronic Global Face Cream to prep as it’s saturated with hyaluronic acid but feels really light. Using the Hyaluronic Hydra-Foundation will help too as it will ensure your skin stays hydrated throughout the day whilst creating the most beautiful looking semi-matte finish. Lock the makeup in place with the Hyaluronic Hydra-Powder being sure to focus on any areas your skin secrets oil or areas commonly known as hot spots – being the t-zone, chin, front of the cheeks and above the brows.

3. How to combat shine.

It’s always a good idea to have a few touch up products to hand on your wedding day so you can ensure your makeup stays looking fresh. Most brides are concerned about excess shine so make sure you have a Hyaluronic Pressed Hydra-Powder somewhere either in a clutch or placed at a convenient spot at your venue so you can quickly mattify any areas that may have started to shine a little. The joy of this powder is that thanks to the hyaluronic acid, the powder always looks fresh and never cakes.

4. The best lipstick for bridal makeup.

I’m frequently asked what the best bridal lipstick is with many focusing on the desire for long wear. However I will always recommend lipsticks that are on the hydrating side as they simply make lips look and feel better – plump and moist – whereas some matte long wearing lipsticks can look and feel a little dry which isn’t a terrible thing but there are many factors on your wedding day that can contribute to dry lips like nerves, anxiety, excitement and champagne so hydrating formulas like the Hyaluronic Hydra-Balm – a 94% skincare based formula enriched with two molecular weights of Hyaluronic Acid – are always going to look better and are great for quick pre-photo touch ups. The Hyaluronic Hydra-Balm also has UV protection so perfect for outdoor weddings and sunny days.

5. How to perfect a smokey eye look but protect against smudging.

A sultry, soft smokey eye is such a winner for a bridal makeup look and thanks to the Ombre Blackstar cream eye shadow sticks you can create smudge proof, water resistant makeup looks that won’t move all day and all night! Simply apply straight from the bullet and blend with your finger or a brush for a beautiful, long wearing eye. I must say my favourite combination is Bronze Moon all over and through the crease of the eye with Blond Opal in the inner corner of the eye finished with lashings of Terrybly Mascara Waterproof.

6. How to brighten under eyes for a glowing bridal makeup.

Your under eyes need to be bright on your wedding day to help your eyes pop – any shadow can detract attention but are all too common for brides who may have struggled to sleep the night before. Thankfully the Hyaluronic Hydra-Concealer not only disguises the appearance of any shadows but also hydrates the delicate skin under the eye thanks to the Hyaluronic Acid infused formula so they never look dull or cakey. To ensure the concealer stays in place, set with a light dusting of the Hyaluronic Hydra-Powder on a fluffy brush.

7. How to create a glowing bridal look.

Most brides want to achieve that ‘blushing bride’ look to ensure they look their most radiant best on their special day. Thankfully, it’s easy to recreate that look with the right products. I swear by applying the Brightening CC Serum under your foundation for the most natural of lit from within glows. You can apply it all over the face but for my brides I usually suggest just applying it to the areas you want to glow like the top of the cheeks and the bridge of the nose. Apply your foundation on top and you’ll see the most natural looking, elegant luminosity coming through the makeup. It really does create that sought after ethereal glow. To build on the glow, finish the look using the Brightening CC Palette in Beach Bomb using the pink over the apples of the cheeks, the peach though the t-zone and the bronzer over the higher points of the face. The powders add warmth but also an almost airbrushed finish to the skin.

8. How to create perfect skin base for makeup.

How you prep your skin is almost as important, if not more so, than the makeup you choose. I like to use a few light layers of skincare to ensure a brides skin is adequately hydrated. Start by using the Baume De Rose Micellar Water to refresh the skin and remove any impurities whilst also maintaining the skins natural water balance. Then follow with Baume de Rose Beauty Toner to start the hydrating process. This will allow your moisturiser to sink into the skin much more effectively and hold the moisture in place. Then finish with the aforementioned Hyaluronic Global Face Cream, blend all over the face and neck and you’re ready for makeup.
